my holiday trip 2015

there's something very juvenille about writing that title, it brings me back to days of how i spent my vacation essays in elementary school. however, there was nothing juvenille about my trip back home. well, except for the day we spent roaming around universal studios. specifically, the wizarding world of harry potter. my holiday trip was eyeopening, and rewarding. not only was it the first time i've ever brought anyone home to meet my entire family (at christmas, no less) but it was the first time i was seeing cuba through adult eyes. while my trip back home to miami was amazing, it was nothing compared to how i felt being in cuba. i got to meet family members i'd never even spoken to. i got to volunteer, and basically earn our keep there. i wish i could find the words to describe what being back there meant to me, but i'm not that articulate. noel and i got to eat at the same place that my grandparents met and fell in love. there's such a deep sense of tradition and culture plastered all around cuba. from the colorful houses, to the pristine beaches. from the incredible architecture, to the old men on the street getting in a game of dominoes. i loved everything about that trip, and i loved seeing where my family originated. the trip meant so much to me that i'm struggling to put it all into words so i'll just leave you with noel's words: "it was lit, fam." while tourism isn't allowed in cuba, i highly recommend you do whatever you have to do to get there and experience it. next up is korea, and i cannot wait!
